The inauguration event will feature the launch of a special Namo Bharat train marking the commencement of operations on the new section. Prime Minister Modi will remotely flag off the train from the Muradnagar RRTS station via video conference from Kolkata. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will also be present during the event.
What are the new Rapid Rail stations opening?
The newly added stretch expands the existing Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RRTS corridor, going beyond its initial operational phase. The extension includes three stations - Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North."The inauguration of this additional 17-km section will enable seamless Namo Bharat services along 34 km of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, covering eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North," stated the NCRTC.
The foundation stone for India's first RRTS corridor connecting Delhi to Meerut was laid by Prime Minister Modi in March 2019. Since its inception, the project has witnessed significant progress, with passenger operations commencing in October 2023.
With the introduction of this new 17-kilometer segment, the Namo Bharat services will seamlessly cover a total distance of 34 kilometers along the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, including eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North.
The RRTS is designed to operate at a speed of 180 kmph, with an operational speed of 160 kmph. The completion of the 82-kilometer long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is expected to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to under sixty minutes, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and easing commuting for residents.
