Air India crash: Two special trains launched to clear passenger rush

The Railway Board has approved running of the special trains in the head of Train on Demand Type(TOD) to clear extra rush of passenger traffic, a statement said.

Following the deadly Air India crash on Thursday, two trains have been notified from Ahmedabad. Western Railway will operate two special trains from Ahmedabad to Delhi and Mumbai after the crash to clear traffic, reports said.

The first one is Ahmedabad -Delhi Jn.- Ahmedabad Superfast Special train on Special fare -- for one trip, railways said. The second one is Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Superfast Special train on Special fare -- for one trip.

The trains are for clearing extra passenger traffic, railways said.

Of the 242 on board on the plane, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, 230 were passengers -- 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian. There were 12 crew members.

Former Gujarat chief minister and BJP leader Vijay Rupani was among the passengers of the ill-fated flight going from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick airport. As per reports available so far, Rupani didn't survive the crash.

The plane crashed at 1.39 pm while taking off, near Meghaninagar. The plane crashed into a doctors' hostel.
