'5-star property' on rails: Man says China's bullet train cannot match India's Vande Bharat Sleeper after a ride; watch video

Travel vlogger Debajit Das has praised the Vande Bharat Sleeper train after travelling from Howrah to Kamakhya, comparing its facilities to a five-star property. In his Instagram review, he highlighted the spacious, clean washroom, premium seating...

A spacious bathroom, a welcome bottle of water and dinner served onboard, these are some of the things that caught travel creator Debajit Das's attention during his journey on the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Sharing his experience on Instagram through the account @nitin_vlogs_, Das praised the facilities on the Howrah-Kamakhya route and compared the overall experience to staying at a five-star property. The vlogger also made a bold comparison with China's high-speed trains, saying, “China ki bullet train bhi India ki is train ke samne fail hai.” His review offers a passenger's perspective on the facilities available aboard the overnight service, including its washrooms, seating arrangements and food.

Vande Bharat Sleeper review: Why the washroom caught his attention

While train reviews often focus on speed, ticket prices and seating, Das drew attention to a more everyday aspect of the journey: the washroom.

He explored the onboard facilities and appeared impressed by the bathroom's size and cleanliness. His reaction led him to describe the experience as being similar to visiting a five-star property.

For passengers spending an entire night on a train, the condition of washrooms can be an important consideration. Das's comments brought this practical aspect of railway travel into focus, making it one of the most talked-about parts of his video.

The train also incorporates technology aimed at improving hygiene and safety, including UV-C lamp-based disinfection systems and aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems in designated areas.

What is the Vande Bharat Sleeper experience like?

Das's journey began at Howrah Junction, with the service scheduled to depart at 6:20 pm and arrive at Kamakhya Junction at 8:20 am the next day. The route covers approximately 966 km between West Bengal and Assam.

He also showed the welcome service offered after boarding, when a staff member handed him a bottle of water. Later, the onboard dinner service became another part of his review.

At around 8 pm, Das showed his non-vegetarian meal and mentioned that vegetarian food was also available. These small details gave viewers a sense of what passengers can expect during an overnight trip.

AC 3 Tier ticket costs Rs 2,450

One of the practical details Das shared was the amount he paid for his journey. The vlogger said his AC 3 Tier ticket cost Rs 2,450.

He noted that fares differ for passengers travelling in AC 2 Tier and AC First Class. Comparing the highest accommodation category with air travel, he remarked that the First AC fare was comparable to a flight ticket.

However, the value of either option depends on the travel date, the fare available and the class of accommodation selected.

Vande Bharat Sleeper features: Berths, CCTV and KAVACH

Designed specifically for overnight journeys, the Vande Bharat Sleeper offers sleeping berths rather than the chair-car arrangement found on conventional daytime Vande Bharat Express services.

Passengers can choose from three classes:

  • AC First Class
  • AC 2 Tier
  • AC 3 Tier
The train also features automatic passenger doors, CCTV surveillance and the indigenous KAVACH train-protection system. Its design speed is up to 180 km/h, although the actual operating speed depends on route conditions and railway operating permissions.

These features complement the train's focus on long-distance passenger travel, where sleeping arrangements and onboard amenities are particularly relevant.

Howrah-Kamakhya train: An overnight option for Northeast travel

The service connects Howrah in West Bengal with Kamakhya in Assam, providing an overnight rail option for passengers travelling towards the Northeast.

Das's video focuses on his personal experience rather than a technical assessment of the train. His praise for the washroom, seats and onboard service offers viewers an impression of the journey from a passenger's perspective.

For travellers considering the service, the key factors to weigh include the fare for their preferred class, the scheduled journey time and the facilities available onboard. Das's review puts the spotlight on one aspect of that decision: what the journey feels like beyond simply getting from one station to another.
