26 level crossings in NCR to have bridges for CW Games 2010

Northern Railway has initiated construction of 26 bridges at level crossings in the National Capital Region ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year.

NEW DELHI: In one of the biggest exercises ever undertaken by it, the Northern Railway has initiated construction of 26 bridges at level crossings in the National Capital Region ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year.

The aim behind such a task is to ensure smooth traffic at level crossings during the Commonwealth Games in 2010, a senior Rail Ministry official said.

As per the action plan, 26 road over bridges (ROB) and road under bridges (RUB) will be built at all important level crossings in the NCR at an estimated cost of about Rs 450 crore before the Games.

While the Northern Railway would construct 21 ROB/RUB, PWD and the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation have been given the work contract to construct five bridges.

The Railways will supervise the construction of the five bridges, said the official.

The Railways have identified the locations where bridges would come up, including Barapullah Nallah, near Anand Vihar ISBT, Apsara Border, Lajpat Nagar, Vivek Vihar, New Azadpur, Mangolpuri and Minto Bridge.
