2 bogies of Delhi-bound Sikkim Mahananda Express derail in Bihar's Ara

Patna: Two bogies of the Delhi-bound Sikkim Mahananda Express derailed at Bihar's Ara Junction railway station in the early hours of Sunday, a senior official said.

No injuries were reported due to the derailment that occurred around 4 am, though rail traffic has been partially impacted, he said.

"The incident occurred early in the morning when the train had just started from Ara Junction. Owing to the train's low speed and our failsafe system, no fatalities or injuries were reported," Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railways, Saraswati Chandra, said.


"Preliminary investigation suggests the derailment occurred due to the driver's fault, who overshot the red signal. However, a detailed inquiry will determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident," he said.

The CPRO said the downline was not affected by the mishap, and the train left Ara Junction station around 7:23 am.
