Delhi–Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper: A video by content creator Akshay Malhotra offers a glimpse inside the first-class cabins of the proposed Delhi–Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. The train is expected to cover around 760 km overnight, wit...
The service is expected to connect the national capital with Varanasi overnight. While the proposed launch has drawn attention, passengers should check Indian Railways' official updates for confirmation of the start date and booking details.
A window that turns opaque and other details inside the cabin
The privacy feature is among the details that catch the eye in Malhotra’s video. The window on the cabin door can be blurred, helping passengers maintain privacy while resting inside.Read more - Himalayan Pole: Not just North Pole & South Pole, Sikkim has an idea for third global pole named after yak; here's what it means
The first-class accommodation also includes individual reading lights and charging points, so passengers can read or charge their devices without relying on shared fittings. Water bottle holders provide space to keep drinking water within reach.
The berths have been designed with ergonomics and cushioning in mind. The coaches also have steps made from non-slip material to help passengers climb to the upper berths more safely.
Together, these fittings suggest an emphasis on practical details for people spending the night on board, rather than just the train’s semi-high-speed credentials.
Delhi to Varanasi overnight: How much time could passengers save?
The proposed Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to cover approximately 760 km in nine hours and 30 minutes. Its overnight schedule would allow passengers to leave in the evening and arrive the next morning. The route is expected to include stops at Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Kanpur Central and Prayagraj. These halts could make the service useful not only for people travelling between Delhi and Varanasi, but also for passengers boarding at intermediate stations.
Two Vande Bharat Chair Car services already connect New Delhi and Varanasi. The sleeper version would cater to a different need: travelling overnight in a berth instead of spending the journey in a chair car.
What are the expected departure and arrival timings?
According to schedule details cited by The Indian Express, the two services are listed as follows:- Train 27421: Departure from Varanasi at 8:50 pm, with arrival in Delhi at 6:10 am the next day. It is listed as running daily except Friday.
- Train 27422: Departure from New Delhi at 9:40 pm, with arrival in Varanasi at 7:10 am the next day. It is listed as running daily except Saturday.
First, Second and Third AC: What will the train offer?
The proposed train is expected to have 16 coaches, with First AC, Second AC and Third AC accommodation. This gives travellers options across different fare categories, although confirmed fares and booking information should be checked through official railway channels. The coaches are also expected to feature improved suspension, noise-reduction measures and an emergency talk-back system. The latter is intended to give passengers a way to communicate with train staff if they need assistance.
For now, the cabin tour offers an early look at the proposed sleeper experience. The bigger test will be how the train performs in regular service, including its punctuality, comfort and the final details of its timetable.
