Conveyor & Ropeway Services (CRSPL), a Kolkata-based engineering company specialising in aerial ropeway systems, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee to associate on research and development of ropeway technologies, to provide technical and collaborative support for a sustainable transport in urban connectivity.

CRSPL & IIT Roorkee would engage in collaborative research on Non Linear Ropeway System

A major focus of the collaboration will be the evaluation and further development of CURVO, theNon-Linear ropeway technology developed by CRSPL that can negotiate curves and bends without detachment from the rope at line speed, unlike conventional ropeways that operate in a straight alignment. CURVO is designed to negotiate the curves and bends, along the road routes making it particularly suitable for urban transportation corridors.

The collaboration will be academically anchored and technically guided by faculty members from IIT Roorkee, including Prof. Vidit Gaur and Prof. Ravi Kumar.

Shekhar Chakravarty, Chairman, CRSPL noted that CRSPl & IIT Roorkee would form a strong technical affiliation to promote the integration of Non Linear Ropeway Transportation into mainstream urban transport segment for a clean and green alternative commutation system.

The partnership aims to strengthen industry–academia collaboration in the field of sustainable transportation and urban mobility solutions. Under the MoU, CRSPL and IIT Roorkee will jointly engage in technical studies, design validation, safety assessments, and research projects related to ropeway systems and aerial transport infrastructure. The partnership will also facilitate knowledge exchange, academic research opportunities, and industry exposure for students and scholars.
