Vistara to increase capacity by about 50% by adding four more aircraft in 2016

NEW DELHI: As Vistara, a joint venture company between Tata Group and Singapore International Airlines, completes a year of its operations today, it has announced to increase its capacity by about 50% by adding four more aircraft in its fleet in 2016.

The airline currently operates a fleet of 9 Airbus 320 aircraft and operates 307 weekly flights to 12 destinations across the country.

Vistara also announced that the airline has already flown more than 1 million customers within one year of operations, making it the fastest growing full-service carrier in the country. The other two full service carriers are Jet Airways and Air India.

The second year of the operations will also see the airline opening its lounge at the Delhi airport launching in-flight entertainment system.

“We will soon open our signature lounge at T3, Delhi, which will provide an opportunity to our customers to indulge in a fine experience way beyond the conventional lounge concept. We will also be incorporating a pioneering concept of in-flight entertainment for our passengers which will redefine the in-flight experience for travelers in India. In addition, we are looking at adding four more aircraft in 2016,” Vistara CEO Phee Teik Yeoh told ET.

The second year of operations may also see Vistara reducing seats in its premium class cabins. It currently offers 16 business class seats, 36 seats in premium economy and 96 seats in the economy class.

As part of its first year celebrations, ‘lucky customers, who booked on Vistara flights in the week of December 16, 2015, a flat 25% discount was offered for travel till April 30, 2016.
