Users Forum seeks quality service in Gulf sector

Accusing national carrier Air India of neglecting the Gulf sector, the All-India Airport Users Forum today said it would launch an agitation, including ignoring Indian airline services, if the present `pathetic' situation continued.

KOZHIKODE: Accusing national carrier Air India of neglecting the Gulf sector, the All-India Airport Users Forum today said it would launch an agitation, including ignoring Indian airline services, if the present `pathetic' situation continued.

"It is a known fact that Keralites working in different parts of the Gulf are contributing significantly to the Indian economy, but what they are getting in return is poor-quality air service," Forum General Secretary, K M Basheer told reporters here.

Compared to the service provided in the European and American sectors, passengers to the Gulf continued to face hardship despite paying exorbitant fare, he alleged.

As a result, Basheer said, several Gulf-bound passengers were now preferring other terminals like Coimbatore depending on private airlines for their travel.

Referring to frequent cancellation and rescheduling of flights from the Karipur international airport here, from where Air India alone maintained services to the Gulf, he said Union Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel's assurance that such problems would soon be overcome had not materialised.

"Due to sudden cancellation of flights, several Keralites working in the Gulf have lost their jobs," he said, adding Centre could not afford to turn a blind to the issue anymore.

Seeking to put an end to such `serious discrimination meted out to Gulf-bound passengers, the Forum would resort to a series of agitations, including ignoring the Indian airline service and going in for private airlines, he said.
