Union Cabinet okays revised Civil Aviation Authority bill

As ET had reported on February 5, the revised CAA bill will give the regulator powers to appoint technical officers without prior clearance.

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has cleared the revised Civil Aviation Authority Bill, incorporating the changes recommended by the standing committee on transport, tourism and culture, a top official in the civil aviation ministry said. The official said the bill was cleared by the Cabinet late on Wednesday.

"The bill will be tabled in parliament next week," the official said in an SMS reply. The standing Committee on transport, tourism and culture had recently tabled a report on the Bill, saying the Bill was not very different from the current law governing DGCA and had recommended a series of steps to strengthen it. As ET had reported on February 5, the revised CAA bill will give the regulator powers to appoint technical officers without prior clearance.
