Tirupati-bound SpiceJet flight returns to Hyderabad due to technical snag

Tirupati-bound Spicejet flight on Thursday returned to its source airport of Hyderabad shortly after takeoff due to an issue in the rear baggage door of the aircraft.

Flight SG 2696 was scheduled to depart from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 6.10 AM. The delayed flight took off at 6.19 AM and was expected to land in Tirupati at 7.40 AM.

However, the defective flight returned and landed back at Hyderabad shortly after takeoff.


The airline confirmed that the aircraft did not make any emergency landing; it was a precautionary return.

"On June 19, 2025, a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating the Hyderabad–Tirupati flight experienced an intermittent illumination of the AFT baggage door right after take-off. Cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout. As a precautionary measure, the pilots decided to return to Hyderabad. The aircraft landed safely and passengers were deplaned normally. The aircraft did not make an emergency landing. An alternate aircraft has been arranged to operate the onward journey to Tirupati," said Spicejet.

This incident marked the second major flight disruption of the day after a Delhi-Leh IndiGo flight made mid-air U-turn due to technical snag. The issue caused operational restrictions to land at the destination, hence the aircraft took a U-turn before reaching Leh as a precautionary measure.
