Tata Group wins Air India bid for Rs 18,000 cr; gets 'Maharaja' back

The Tata group is the new owner of Air India, winning the airline it founded 90 years ago for Rs 18,000 crore. Of this money, 15% would go to the government and the rest will go in clearing debt. A letter of intent will be issued, the share-purchase agreement will be signed, said divestment secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey. The government wants to close the transaction by the end of December 2021.
