Taneja Aero flies into MRO territory
TAAL, the Bangalore-based Rs 22-crore charter, aircraft sales and aerostructure manufacturer, has added another line of business.
“We have contracted with a leading courier company which is launching a cargo airline in September, to provide MRO services. Our MRO services will be for airframes and we will support all three aircraft of the cargo airline which is being launched,” Salil Taneja, chairman, TAAL, said.
TAAL had raised $7.5m by way of global depository receipts (GDRs) last fiscal. These funds have helped the company lengthen and strengthen runway, add a new hangar and expand capacities for aerostructure maintenance of Airbus-320 (A-320) aircraft. Its runway can now accommodate A320s, Mr Taneja added.
While admitting that the runway could be designated a private regional airfield since it meets the requirements, Mr Taneja pointed to the lack of clarity from the government. While the MRO services are expected to witness a lot of
action, Mr Taneja said they would focus only on the airframe MRO business. TAAL has also received certification from
Cessna as its authorised service centre, the first in the country. This means that servicing the five Cessna aircraft already in the country would be under the OEM guarantees, Mr Taneja said.
