Strong wind, hailstorm lash Delhi airport; 30 flights diverted, small aircraft operations cancelled

Of the total diversions, five of the the flights were international flights and the rest were domestic flights

NEW DELHI: Air traffic at Delhi airport was badly impacted after the airport was hit by heavy winds and hailstorm leading to about about 30 diversions.

Operation by smaller ATR as well as Bombardier aircraft were also suspended due to heavily winds that lashed the capital’s airport at about 6 in the evening.

Of the total diversions, five of the the flights were international flights and the rest were domestic flights, said sources.


“Flights were diverted to airports like Jaipur, Amritsar, Lucknow, Varanasi and Indore due to heavy winds and hailstorm that hit the airport,” said a source at the airport.

The flights that were diverted due to bad weather were of Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways and Vistara.
