SpiceJet ties-up with MAS Aerospace for Boeing 737 maintenance

Budget air-carrier, SpiceJet, today said it has tied-up with MAS Aerospace Engineering of Malaysia for the maintenance of its Boeing 737 aircraft.

MUMBAI: Budget air-carrier, SpiceJet, today said it has tied-up with MAS Aerospace Engineering of Malaysia for the maintenance of its Boeing 737 aircraft.

Under the contract which has been signed for a three-year period, SpiceJet aircraft will be sent to MAS for 'C' and heavy checks, starting from this year, a SpiceJet press release said here.

MAS Aerospace is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines.

The company is also setting up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in collaboration with Hyderabad-based GMR airport, which is likely to come up by the first quarter of the next year. The facility will have the capacity to service between 60-80-aircraft annually.

"SpiceJet's aircraft will first be serviced in Subang (Malaysia). Once our MRO JV Company, MAS-GMR Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in Hyderabad commences operation by the first quarter of 2011, the aircraft will be serviced on the sub-continent allowing SpiceJet to enjoy even more cost savings and reduced downtime for each aircraft, MAE's Managing Director, En Mohd Roslan Ismail, said.
