SpiceJet starts daily direct flight between Guwahati and Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh is the 50th destination to which SpiceJet offers air connectivity. The airline is flying its Bombardier Q400 aircraft on the new route.

GUWAHATI: Budget airline SpiceJet on Tuesday launched a flight from Assam’s Dibrugarh to Guwahati, becoming the only airline to offer daily direct connectivity between the tea city of India and the state’s largest city.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off the first flight from Dibrugarh. Having a flight on the Dibrugarh-Guwahati-Silchar route will help facilitate increased trade and commerce in the state, he said.

Dibrugarh is the 50th destination to which SpiceJet offers air connectivity. The airline is flying its Bombardier Q400 aircraft on the new route.

Jet Airways, which previously operated on the Dibrugarh-Guwahati route, suspended the flight three months back.

Sonowal said the state government would set up heliports at places like Umrangsu, Mankachar and Majuli to offer better connectivity.

With India’s Act East policy, all avenues of connectivity have been explored to take the north-eastern region closer to Southeast Asian nations, Sonowal said. This would give a renewed momentum to trade, commerce and tourism in the region in the coming days, he added.
