SpiceJet secures MoU for 10 aircraft, bets on more than doubling capacity
SpiceJet is set to significantly expand its operations. The airline has received a Memorandum of Understanding for ten new aircraft. This move aims to more than double its capacity within the year. SpiceJet plans to operate over 300 daily flights....
The development comes days after the airline’s Board approved a calibrated ramp-up of the fleet to 60 aircraft through a mix of wet and damp leases, alongside the phased return of grounded planes.
SpiceJet said its recovery has accelerated in recent months, with capacity doubling in the last quarter. Available Seat Kilometres (ASKMs) rose from around 55 crore to 105 crore, reflecting a significant expansion in network strength.
SpiceJet share price turned positive and was trading about 1 percent higher on Thursday, as of 11:08 a.m.
Building on this momentum, the airline now plans to more than double capacity during the year, targeting around 220–225 crore ASKMs by Winter 2026 and operating over 300 daily flights across its network.
The expansion aims to strengthen connectivity, improve operational reliability and cater to robust passenger demand, while maintaining a disciplined growth strategy.
"Doubling our capacity in the last quarter has been a significant milestone, and the plans we have in place to more than double it further this year reflect growing confidence in the business and strong demand across the network" Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said in a statement.
"The receipt of this MoU is an encouraging development," he added.
SpiceJet said it will continue pursuing balanced growth through fleet restoration and selective additions as it works towards long-term sustainability.
