NEW DELHI: Private sector airline SpiceJet on Thursday said it has received the first 'next generation' Boeing 737-900 (ER) carrier in the country.

SpiceJet is the first India-based airline to operate 737-900 (ER). It originally had announced to purchase five carriers of this type and another five of 737-800 categories.

"We are proud to be the first Indian airline to operate the 737-900 (ER). With its reliability, low operating cost and passenger comfort, 737 provides value that is unmatched and supports our mission of being India's preferred low-cost carrier," SpiceJet board director Bhulo Kansagra said in a statement.

The Boeing 737-900 (ER) is the newest of the 'next generation' 737 airplane family and longer-range derivative of the 737-900 with a higher capacity.
