SpiceJet offers tickets at Rs 999 to travellers with only hand baggage
Under this offer passengers can carry a maximum of 7 kilos worth of hand baggage, in addition to a standard sized laptop bag or ladies purse.
“The sale opened today and will close on April 29. Travel period covered under this sale is July 1, 2015 to October 15, 2015. The sale is for all direct and onward flights on SpiceJet's domestic network, and 1,50,000 seats are available under this offer,” it said in a statement. The sale is not applicable for group bookings.
Under this offer passengers can carry a maximum of 7 kilos worth of hand baggage, in addition to a standard sized laptop bag or ladies purse.
SpiceJet executives at the check-in counter will be checking the PNR of such passengers. A passenger who has bought the ticket under this offer and is still carrying check-in luggage will have to pay Rs 750 for up to 15 kilos of checked-in luggage.
The offer is SpiceJet’s way of exploiting a government directive in 2013 to unbundle air fares. Under the directive, airlines are allowed to charge separately for extra baggage, seat preference etc.
Following the mandate, AirAsia India which has a no free baggage policy tried to implement the same in India but had to withdraw after bring rapped by the DGCA.
