SpiceJet launches online hotel reservation service

No-frills airline SpiceJet on Thursday launched a dedicated online web hotel reservation service in collaboration with travel firm Yatra online.

NEW DELHI: No-frills airline SpiceJet on Thursday launched a dedicated online web hotel reservation service in collaboration with travel firm Yatra online. The service will offer rooms to passengers of any airline in about 100 hotels ranging from two to five star in 13 major cities.

SpiceJet plans to boost its bottomline by increasing revenue from the anicillary services. Low-cost carriers in the US and Europe earn quite a chunk of their revenues from ancillary activities like hotels, car rentals, credit cards, cancellations and re-bookings. European airline Ryan Air, for instance, earns between 18-20% from such activities annually compared to 4% of the SpiceJet. "We want to raise this share to 7% this year," SpiceJet chairman, Mr Siddhanta Sharma, said on Thursday.
