Rossell Tea plans for aviation academies with JV partner
Rossell Tea plans to set up aviation academies along with an overseas joint venture partner.
Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of the company’s AGM in Kolkata on Wednesday, chairman HM Gupta said: "The civil aviation industry in India is witnessing a boom. There is an acute shortage of manpower in this industry and most of the airlines are recruiting people from abroad. We felt that there is a huge vacuum in the aviation training sector. This compelled us to take the decision to set up aviation academies in the country. We have identified an overseas partner for this and the deal is expected to be finalised within the next one month."
Incidentally, with the civil aviation sector expanding at a fast pace and the number of aircrafts on rise, there is a need for trained pilots. Not surprisingly, aviation school is the latest buzzword among students, as India would require around 7,500-8,000 pilots and an equal number or more cabin crew by 2010. Heavy pay packets are awaiting pilots with a commercial pilot licence.
Rossell Tea has a separate division, Aerotech Services, to handle the aviation business. It had recently acquired Sigma Microsystems, a firm engaged in the business of manufacturing, design and development of avionics, electronics and aviation equipment. Sigma also manufactures flight data recorders, more popularly known as black boxes. "We are on the look out for similar such companies for acquisition. We are talking to several firms, but nothing has been finalised yet," Mr Gupta added.
