Passenger's electronic device catches fire on IndiGo flight after landing at Mohali airport

A safety scare unfolded aboard IndiGo flight 6E 108 travelling from Hyderabad to Chandigarh on Tuesday after a passenger's personal electronic device caught fire, triggering an emergency evacuation at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali.

According to an official statement by IndiGo, the incident occurred after the aircraft had landed and was stationary on the ground. The airline said an immediate evacuation was carried out in the interest of safety and all relevant authorities were informed promptly.

"All customers have been safely moved to the terminal and are being attended to by the team to ensure their well-being," IndiGo said in a statement. The airline added that the aircraft will undergo necessary checks before resuming operations.

In late March, a full emergency was declared at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport after an IndiGo flight from Visakhapatnam to Delhi reportedly developed a technical snag mid-air, leading to the failure of one of its engines.

The Delhi-bound flight made an emergency landing on IGI's runway number 28 at 10:54 am, with all emergency services pressed into action by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) as per aviation protocol.

All 161 passengers and crew members on board were unharmed and there was no damage to the aircraft, authorities confirmed.
