PMIC qualifies all 4 bidders for Navi Mumbai International Airport

The airport is proposed to be developed through public- private participation (PPP) by setting-up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) with 26 per cent equity contribution from CIDCO.

MUMBAI: All four bidders were today qualified by the project monitoring and implementation committee (PMIC) in the development of ambitious Navi Mumbai International Airport.

"The PMIC, chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary with senior government officials from the state and Centre today qualified all the four applicants in the global bidding for this project of national importance," a statement issued by City Industrial and Development Corporation (CIDCO) stated.

The airport is proposed to be developed through public- private participation (PPP) by setting-up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) with 26 per cent equity contribution from CIDCO.

The four bidders include GMR Airports, Mumbai International Airport (MIAL), Zurich Airport & Voluptas Developers (Hiranadani group) and MIA Infrastructure, a consortium of VINCI Airports International SA and Tata Realty.

CIDCO had commenced the first stage of the two stage bidding process by issuing RFQ on February 5 last year.

The PMIC, set up by Ministry of Civil Aviation to expedite the project approvals reviewed the qualifications and after detailed deliberations, declared all the four applicants as qualified for the financial bidding stage, subject to security clearance from Ministry of Home Affairs, the statement stated.

"With this pre-qualification, the project bidding has reached a very important phase, wherein the bidders will bid for the award of airport concession with the bid parameter being per cent share of gross revenue offered to CIDCO," it added.

The airport is poised to commence commercial operations in the year 2019 and is designed to serve 10 million passengers per annum in its first phase and 60 million upon completion.

"Apart from serving the Mumbai metropolitan region as a part of the first ever multi airport system in the country, this airport would act as a powerful engine for the overall growth of our country," the agency said.

CIDCO has already obtained major approvals, clearances for the project and commenced the bidding for land development works setting the stage for the concessionaire to fast track the airport development, it added.
