PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate new Chandigarh terminal tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a new terminal at the Chandigarh Airport tomorrow built at a cost of Rs 939 crore by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

“The new civil air terminal at Chandigarh is being dedicated to the Nation by the Prime Minister of India on 11th September, 2015,” said a release from AAI.

The new Civil Air Terminal has been established at Chandigarh as a joint venture by the name of Chandigarh International Airport Ltd (CHIAL) with the participation of AAI and governments of Punjab and Haryana with AAI owning 51% stake and the other two state governments owning 24.5% each.

The release added that the terminal building has a peak hour handling capacity of 1,600 passengers built at a land mass of 300 acres.

“The Terminal Building has an area of 53,400 square metres. The total cost of the project including the cost of the land is to the tune of Rs 939 crores,” said the release.

The release added that the terminal building will have 48 check-in counters, four baggage conveyor belts, three passenger boarding bridges (aerobridges), parking for 500 cars. On the apron side, it has capacity for parking 8 aircraft.
