Plans are afoot to lease Chennai airport to private players, a top official of Airports Authority of India (AAI) said.

CHENNAI: Plans are afoot to lease Chennai airport to private players, a top official of Airports Authority of India ( AAI) said here today.

As part of proposed privatisation efforts, AAI has been asked by the civil aviation ministry to scout for private partners, AAI chairman V P Agrawal told reporters here.

Subsequently officials were looking at leasing out the city airport to private players as an option, he said.

Earlier, Minister of State for Civil Aviation K C Venugopal inspected the new terminals, days after sections of the false-ceiling fell down following a heavy downpour.

He said the problem would soon be set right. The minister also said the new international terminal was expected to be in use in about a month.
