Philippine airline to buy 3 Bombardier aircraft
Air Philippines, a low-cost sister company of national flag-carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) said Tuesday it is buying three turboprop aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace for $56 million.
The twin-engine Bombardier Q300 aircraft, to be delivered between November this year and February and April next year, will service the route to Caticlan town in the central Philippines, a jumping off point to the popular resort island of Boracay, said Air Philippines officials.
Air Philippines spokeswoman Leah Sison said it has options for three more such aircraft. Air Philippines, which has a fleet of eight Boeing 737-300s, serves domestic routes, charging rates below that of PAL. Rival budget carrier Cebu Pacific had earlier announced orders for six aircraft from European firm ATR to also boost its domestic operations.
