Passenger refunds to be hit as IATA suspends Jet bookings

Mumbai: The International Air Transport Association has suspended all ticketing activities and transactions of Jet Airways, which effectively means that thousands of passengers whose tickets have been cancelled, will have to wait indefinitely for refunds.

“IATA has suspended Jet Airways (9W 589) with immediate effect in accordance with the provisions in Resolution 850 Attachment F,” the airline body said in a communication to travel agents. This means the agents will immediately suspend all ticketing activities on behalf of Jet, including the use of all automated systems for processing of refunds or other credit/debit transactions on behalf of the airline. “We can't pay the refunds for cancelled tickets which means passengers get none unless Jet pays,” said a travel company executive.
