Your Mumbai flight may get cancelled; here's why

For the rest of October and all of November, the main runway will be shut for four hours--12 pm to 4 pm--on all days except Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

MUMBAI: Over 2,000 Mumbai flights will be cancelled and many more rescheduled from today till November end, as runways at the city's airport remain closed for several hours every day for repair work.

Mumbai's airport has two runways--main and secondary--that cross each other and hence can never be simultaneously used.

For the rest of October and all of November, the main runway will be shut (and the secondary runway used) for four hours--12 pm to 4 pm--on all days except Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The dates are Oct--18, 19, 22, 23, 25, 26, 29 and 30 and November 1, 2, 5,6, 8,9,12,

Additionally, from November, both runways will be closed from 12 pm-5 pm every Monday and Thursday, which means that only on Fridays in November will both runways be operational all day.

Airlines are working on alternate networking plans.

"In light of the forthcoming closure of the Mumbai airport runway with effect from October 18 until end-November, Jet Airways has revised its flight schedules for some of its flights arriving into/ departing from Mumbai. Our contact centre is taking proactive steps to keep guests updated of revised timings and re-accommodation on alternate flights where necessary, via SMS or phone calls," the airline said in a recent statement, also advising its customers to check updates on its website.

Budget carrier IndiGo, too said its flight schedules would be reworked.
