Mumbai-Latur air service soon, says Deshmukh
An air service connecting Mumbai to Latur and Nanded in Marathwada region would be launched soon, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said.
"The inaugural Mumbai-Latur-Nanded flight would take off soon", Deshmukh said while speaking at a function at Latur, his native place, over the weekend.
The direct train service to Mumbai on the newly built broadgauge track in Latur and Osmanabad would also be flagged off soon, Deshmukh said.
"Everything is ready. We are just waiting for Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to spare time for the inaugural function", he said.
The train would travel on the Osmanabad-Latur-Kurduwadi-Mumbai route, he added.
Deshmukh also informed that he recently met HRD Minister Arjun Singh to make a case for Latur having a central university and also pitched for either an IIT or an IIM in Marathwada region.
Deshmukh pointed out that students from Latur have been consistently emerging toppers in the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations and the region deserved to be home to such institutions.
