Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be suspended for six hours on Wednesday, 8 May, due to essential runway maintenance work, the airport operator MIAL said on Saturday.

According to Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), both runways, 09/27 (the main runway) and 14/32 (the secondary one), will be closed from 11 am to 5 pm for the scheduled pre-monsoon checks.

The airport authority said a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months in advance so that airlines could reschedule flights and passengers could plan their journeys ahead of time.

The yearly pre-monsoon maintenance is important for keeping the runway safe and in good condition during the rainy season. During this time, specialists will check the surface for any damage or signs of wear and tear.

They will also carry out preventive work to avoid waterlogging and ensure that planes can land and take off safely during the monsoon.
