Mumbai Airport recorded more than 5 million international passenger arrivals between January and August 2025, reaffirming its position as India’s busiest gateway for overseas travellers.

According to airport authorities, international arrivals at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) have grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21% over the past three years. “CSMIA continues to be the first window into Mumbai’s vibrant culture and India’s global appeal,” an airport spokesperson said.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remained the top source market, accounting for 1.5 million arrival passengers during the eight-month period. The United Kingdom (0.38 million) and Thailand (0.32 million) followed as the next largest contributors.

Emerging destinations also posted strong growth. Colombo contributed 0.17 million international arrivals, while Kuwait and Dammam added 0.16 million each, reflecting shifting travel trends and growing regional demand.

Between April 2024 and 2025, CSMIA expanded its international network by adding seven new routes, including Al-Fujairah, Tashkent, Krabi, Almaty, Amman, Manchester, and Tbilisi. The additions have bolstered Mumbai’s direct connectivity to 55 global destinations.

Passenger traffic data show steady momentum: arrivals between January and August 2025 rose to over 5 million, compared with 4.8 million in the same period of 2024 and 4.1 million in 2023. In the year ending August 2025, CSMIA handled 8.24 million international arrival passengers. January 2025 was a standout month, clocking 0.69 million international arrivals — a 415% surge from January 2022, when global travel had only begun recovering from the pandemic shock.
