MUMBAI: The developers of the Mumbai Airport are working on a blueprint for setting up a dedicated cargo complex to cater to all types of cargo requirements which is expected to be finalised in the next two to three months.

“We are currently working on a master plan for setting up a cargo complex at the Mumbai Airport. The plan should be ready in the next two to three months,” a Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) spokesperson said on Friday.

The proposed complex would have one-million tonnes of capacity and be constructed in and around the existing cargo complex, the spokesperson said. “Basically, we need to have a separate cargo complex which can cater to all types of cargo such as pharmaceuticals, perishable cargo, among others.

The proposed dedicated complex will be set up keeping all these requirements in mind,” he said. The Mumbai Airport handled 5,25,335-tonnes of cargo last financial year.
