Lufthansa plans direct daily flight between Mumbai-Munich
German air-carrier, Lufthansa, plans to launch a direct daily flight between Mumbai and Munich from the coming winter, a top official said here on Monday.
"We will run a direct daily flight between Mumbai and Munich from October this year," Lufthansa South Asia Director, Werner Heesen, told reporters at a press conference here today.
The airlines currently run a daily non-stop flight between Mumbai and Frankfurt, in addition to a thrice-weekly Mumbai-Munich flight.
Heesen said that the recently launched Mumbai-Munich flight would be made into a direct daily flight from October.
Lufthansa's first non-stop Munich-Mumbai flight arrived in Mumbai on Sunday.
Heesen also said that during summer, passengers would have a maximum of 55 flights per week between India and Europe.
Heesen said that India was a strategic market for the airline particularly when its air traffic was likely to triple by 2024 and with India holding an important position in the Asia-Pacific.
Lufthansa currently operates flight between Delhi-Frankfurt and Delhi-Munich, Mumbai-Munich and Mumbai-Frankfurt, Chennai-Frankfurt, Bangalore-Frankfurt, Hyderabad-Frankfurt and Kolkata-Frankfurt.
It also plans to launch a a non-stop service between Pune and Frankfurt from July 1 this year, in addition to enhancing the Kolkata-Frankfurt frequency from three times a week to five times a week from June 3.
