Licences to operate drone in India soon

At present, operation of drones are not allowed in India and security agencies as well as government agencies are allowed to use them after prior permission can operate them.

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA) is to come out with a draft rules for operations of drone in India, which may mandate a remote pilot licence to operate drones beyond a certain weight in the country.

"Countries like China and the US require people operating drones beyond 7 and 25 kg, respectively, to get a RPL. Our weight limit for getting the same will be more stringent," said a senior DGCA official.

At present, operation of drones are not allowed in India and security agencies as well as government agencies are allowed to use them after prior permission can operate them.
