Largest cargo carrier lands at the new international airport
One of the largest air cargo carriers in the world, Russian-made ANTONOV, landed at the new international airport here in the wee hours today.
ANTONOV (An-124) came from Karachi and landed at the airport at 0210 hrs today, airport sources said.
It was the largest mass-produced aircraft until the advent of Airbus A-380 and is similar to the American Lockheed C-5 Galaxy.
The ANTONOV is generally used to carry locomotives, yachts, aircraft fuselages and a variety of other oversized cargos.
The aircraft can also kneel down to allow easier front-loading of upto 150 tonnes of cargo.
It can also carry around 88 passengers in the upper deck behind the wing centre section, the sources added.
