Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is all set to be become country's first Aadhaar-enabled airport by 2018.

After a two-month pilot project in February, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has decided to make KIA fully compliant with Aadhaaar-enabled entry and biometric boarding system.

The KIA is expected to be completely Aadhar enabled by December 2018, which is an initiative in line with its endeavours to become a Smart Airport, one which is fully digitized, seamlessly connected and intuitive airport.

The process enables a passenger to be verified in less than five seconds at every checkpoint right up to the boarding gate. The idea is to bring down the screening process in 10 minutes compared to the average 25 minutes.

It will also help more passengers enter through the same gate and passengers will no longer have to show a paper ticket or boarding pass and ID at multiple checkpoints.

Passengers boarding international airline flights will be able to access the new system by October 4, 2018 and the project will be completed by December 31, 2018.
