Jetlite flight makes emergency landing at Kolkata airport

A Bangalore-bound Jetlite aircraft carrying 150 passengers and four crew members on Tuesday had a close shave when it suffered a bird-hit shortly after takeoff and landed in emergency conditions at Kolkata airport.

KOLKATA: A Bangalore-bound Jetlite aircraft carrying 150 passengers and four crew members on Tuesday had a close shave when it suffered a bird-hit shortly after takeoff and landed in emergency conditions at the airport here.

All passengers and the crew were safe, airport sources said.

The Jetlite flight S2364, which took off from the NSC Bose International Airport at 5:15 pm returned just 15 minutes later after a problem developed in the engine following the bird-hit, the sources said.

The authorities made all arrangements for the emergency landing with fire tenders, medical van, doctors and police van after the pilot contacted the ATC, they said.

The plane, flying from Port Blair to Bangalore via Kolkata, finally took off at 7:15 pm after repairs.
