Jet launches Kerala-Muscat flight

NEW DELHI: At a time when most of the carriers are curtailing operations, Jet Airways is continuing with its expansion spree and has launched a flight to Muscat and started three new domestic services from Hyderabad.

With the maiden flight to Muscat from Thiruvananthapuram flagged off today, the premier private carrier now flies to six destinations in the Gulf Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, from five gateways in India.

The Muscat flight is operated by a Boeing 737-800 and has two class configurations, an airline spokesperson said.
In the domestic sector, the airline started three new flights from Hyderabad to Vishakhapatnam, Goa and Pune with its new turbo-prop ATR-72-500 aircraft.

Commenting on the new domestic flight, Jet CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said the airline would "further enhance regional connectivity in line with passenger demand from and to these cities."

On the Muscat-Thiruvananthapuram service, the airline's Chief Commercial Officer Sudheer Raghavan said Jet Airways had already established its dominance in the Kerala-Gulf sector "on the strength of its superior in-flight product and service standards."

Interestingly, Jet's expansion comes when many major carriers as well as the low-cost ones are curtailing or clubbing flights in an effort to reduce operating cost in the face of mounting fuel prices.
