Jet-Etihad deal up for discussion before CCI

Jet-Etihad deal will come up for discussion before the Competition Commission of India (CCI) on October 14.

NEW DELHI: The Rs 2060-crore Jet-Etihad deal will come up for discussion before the Competition Commission of India ( CCI) on October 14 (Monday), said Ashok Chawla, chairman of the Commission, at the sidelines of a seminar on Thursday.

The deal that recently got a nod from India’s cabinet will require final approval from the fair-trade regulator. Most experts, however, believe that the approval by the CCI is just a formality.

On the issue of Indian automakers abusing their dominant position by selling spare parts only through their dealership at a high price, Chawla said the issue was in courts.

Nissan India approached a Madras High Court to seek a stay order on the investigation by CCI. “Recently, Chennai court has passed a stay order challenging the jurisdiction of CCI to probe the matter,” said Chawla.
