Jet effect: Passenger growth hit

The domestic aviation market which grew consistently in double digits for the past four years, saw 11.60 million passengers during March this year, up from 11.58 million during the same month in 2018.

Air traffic data for March showed passenger growth in the Indian domestic aviation market taking a major hit, registering a measly growth of 0.14%, mainly due to the financial woes afflicting Jet Airways.

According to DGCA data, the domestic aviation market which grew consistently in double digits for the past four years, saw 11.60 million passengers during March this year, up from 11.58 million during the same month in 2018.

Analysts feel that the domestic passenger numbers may see a decline for the month of April, when Jet Airways was reduced to a seven-aircraft operator and was grounded finally, but the growth momentum should pick up from May, when airlines have announced the launch of new flights on slots vacated by Jet Airways.
