Jet Airways inducts first Boeing 737 Max plane
Jet Airways India Ltd, the country's leading full service carrier, said its new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft will help the airline enhance operational reliability and reduce costs.
The US plane maker claims the plane is 15% more fuel efficient than its predecessor the 737 NG (New Generation) planes, a factor that would help jet control costs at a time when fuel prices are inching up. Fuel prices are the biggest bill expense chunk for an airline.
Jet has ordered a total of 225 of the planes deliveries of which stretch beyong 2025. The airline currently has a fleet of 120 mostly Boeing planes that includes 86 narrow-bodied aircraft.
Jet plans to take delivery of 11 of the planes this financial year through March 31, 2019. It plans to deploy them on domestic routes as well as regional international routes starting with Abu Dhabi and including new ones in Africa and CIS countries.
