Jet Airways plane skids off runway at Goa; 12 hurt

The pilots are likely to be de-rostered soon. The Goa airport is owned by the Indian Navy. Its serves commercial flights and Naval air training.

NEW DELHI | MUMBAI: A Jet Airways aircraft carrying 161 passengers and crew Tuesday skidded off the runway at Goa's Dabolim airport just as it was about to take off for Mumbai. Everyone was safely evacuated. Twelve passengers sustained injuries during the evacuation process but received medical treatment soon.

The airport was shut till afternoon after the incident. Jet said in a statement that it made alternative arrangements for all affected passengers to continue their onward journey.

In reply to a query from a shareholder at Jet's AGM, the carrier’s acting CEO Amit Agarwal said, the airline continues to "maintain strong insurance on each aircraft...so our losses (due to the incident) are covered."

The regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation is probing the incident. The pilots are likely to be de-rostered soon. The Goa airport is owned by the Indian Navy. Its schedule is divided between commercial flights and Navy air training and other purposes.
