According to industry sources, RCom���s DTH service is likely to replace the company���s in-flight entertainment system JetScreen, which largely offers pre-recorded content through ���video on demand��� on its domestic and international flights.
The DTH company would be partnering with an Israel-based technology company for the same. When contacted, a Reliance Communication spokesperson declined to comment, stating the company cannot divulge any specific information.
Reliance Bluemagic, which is likely to be launched by June-end, has already placed an order of about 5 million set-top boxes with its vendors. Industry sources believe that the company is expecting to grab about that many consumers in the next 18-19 months till the next year-end.

The DTH company would initially import all these set-top boxes. The company is already in talks with several LCD and television manufacturers to offer bundled services in a bid to woo cable and satellite homes to shift to its DTH service.
The company would initially tap its mobile distributors to sell its set-top boxes with more than 1-lakh distributors which will offer the DTH connections. In addition, the company has also signed 5,000 standalone distributors pan-India.
As per industry analysts, the DTH industry is poised to drive digitalisation in entertainment in the country. As per Ernst & Young, 28% of the 100-million pay-television households will migrate to DTH. Currently, DTH subscriber base is pegged at 3.5-million subscribers and is expected to increase to 19 million by 2010.
