IndiGo's Mumbai-Kolkata flight returns due to defect in engine

Confirming the incident that the aircraft returned due to a technical glitch (oil chip in one engine) in the aircraft, IndiGo said that the airline has reported the incident to the DGCA.

NEW DELHI: IndiGo flight operating between Mumbai and Kolkata returned after take off from Mumbai airport due to an engine failure.

The aircraft, operating 6E-395, returned after take off due to oil chip detected detected in engine one of the aircraft. High vibration was also detected on Engine 1 and engine stall messages were also detected in Engine one of the aircraft, sources in the know said.

Confirming the incident that the aircraft returned due to a technical glitch (oil chip in one engine) in the aircraft, IndiGo said that the airline has reported the incident to the DGCA.


“The flight had to return to Mumbai earlier today due to a technical glitch (oil chip in one engine) in the aircraft. All operating procedures were diligently followed by the cockpit and inflight crew,” said a response from IndiGo.

Sources said that the airplane had the defective 4500 series engine, which was red flagged by the European regulator EASA, which has grounded aircraft with both 4500 series engines and banned long-haul flights by aircraft with one of these engines.
