Low-cost airline Indigo on Thursday said it will start commercial operations from August 4 and opened bookings for its first flight connecting Delhi and Guwahati.


NEW DELHI: Low-cost airline Indigo on Thursday said it will start commercial operations from August 4 and opened bookings for its first flight connecting Delhi and Guwahati.

Indigo, promoted by Interglobe enterprises, had placed one of the world's biggest orders for Airbus A-320 aircraft last year.

The company had booked 100 aircraft from the European major Airbus and would recieve one aircraft per month from August for the remaining four months of 2006, Indigo said in a release.

The company would operate in 11 sectors with five aircraft by the end of this year.

The first flight, connecting Delhi to Guwahati, would take-off on August 4 and would be extended to Imphal, the release said.

The company also announced special introductory fares ranging from Rs 999 to Rs 3,598.

"Indigo will cater to the needs of the modern Indian traveller who does not want to waste time, money or energy in the process of travelling," Indigo Chief Executive Officer and President Bruce Ashby said.
