A passenger on an IndiGo flight heading to Leh accidentally deployed the emergency slide before takeoff at Delhi airport on Wednesday.

What happened?

According to IndiGo, the incident took place on flight 6E 5161 from Delhi to Leh. The airline confirmed that the emergency slide was deployed "inadvertently" before takeoff.

What did IndiGo say?

In a statement, the airline said: "Following Standard Operating Procedures, the crew reported the incident and the customer was offloaded and handed over to concerned authorities."

IndiGo also apologised for any inconvenience caused to other passengers.

What do we know about the flight?

Details about the incident remain unclear. However, flight tracking website Flightradar24.com shows that the aircraft involved was an Airbus A320.

Why are emergency slides used?

Normally, inflatable emergency slides are deployed in case of an emergency to help passengers evacuate quickly. Since this incident occurred before takeoff, it led to an unexpected delay for the flight.
