MUMBAI: Around 3,000 employees of government -owned airlines Indian on Thursday went on a two-and-half-hour strike at the domestic airport here to demand the payment of long-pending arrears.
"About 3,000 employees who are members of the union staged a walkout between 9 am to 11.30 am to protest the non-payment of arrears," Dinakar Shetty, President of Air Corporation Employees' Union, told the media.
Shetty said the employees had to resort to strike as negotiations between the union and the Union Civil Aviation ministry failed.
He also warned the union members would take mass casual leave tomorrow if their demand was not met.
Strike was undertaken due to non-payment of arrears to employees belonging to the general categories I and II since 1997, he added.
Police said a protest by the striking employees, staged near the domestic airport, was peaceful.
The union claimed that some Indian flights were affected due to the strike but this was not confirmed by the airport authorities.
