IATA criticises airport regulator for Banagalore tarrif hike

MUMBAI: The International Air Transport Association ( IATA), a global lobbying body, has criticised the Indian airport regulator’s decision to let Bangalore airport raise tariffs.

Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) on June 10 fixed Rs 1,368 and Rs 342 per international and domestic passenger as user development fee (UDF) and other charges.

“AERA’s determination for Kempegowda International Airport has delivered a double whammy to Indian aviation. International airlines operating to Bangalore are now facing a steep increase in their operating costs with a 145% increase in landing charges and a 105% increase in parking charges,” International Air Transport Association said.

Among others, the high charges are likely to impact AirAsia which has chosen Bangalore as a key hub in its network. It operates flights to Goa and Chennai from Bangalore and on Monday the airline said it will add Kochi to its network.
