“We are proud of the progress NMIAL has made,” said Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. “As AAHL’s first greenfield airport, NMIAL represents years of planning, investment, and hard work. This world-class airport will play a pivotal role in the region’s growth, serving as a crucial hub for travelers across the globe.”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with other officials, were present for the event. The landing of the IAF aircraft provided an opportunity for engineers and aviation authorities to assess the runway, taxiways, and air traffic control systems as the airport nears completion.
Once operational, the airport will handle both domestic and international flights. It will feature a 3,700-meter runway, modern terminals, and advanced air traffic control systems. Terminal 1 is expected to handle 20 million passengers annually, with the airport eventually accommodating up to 90 million passengers and 800,000 tons of cargo each year. The project is set to improve connectivity and create new commercial opportunities for the Navi Mumbai region.
