NEW DELHI: Air hostesses of national carrier Indian will sport brand new uniforms from Tuesday. Crew rostered for flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore will be attired in crepe and silk sarees in the vibrant house colours orange and blue from May onwards.

The highlight of the design is the chakra motif blending softly into the rest of the design. The chakra, taking its origin from the Sun Temple at Konark, features in the new livery of all Indian aircraft. While the colour orange has had a strong association with Indian and signifies vibrancy and continuity, the accompanying blue shows a natural affiliation with the sky and aviation.

The uniform design is a collective effort of a team of designers. The sarees have been woven by reputed companies, according to a statement issued by the airline here.

It has been the tradition at Indian to go in for a new uniform every two years, with the idea of lending a freshness to the crew uniform and cabin ambience. The crew will have the choice of wearing either the orange or the blue saree, in crepe or in silk, thus lending variety on board. Each air hostess is given eight sarees every two years, the statement said.
